Harvard Initiative for Global Health
The Harvard
Initiative for Global Health seeks to create a new generation of leaders and
develop new and innovative solutions to the vital problems of global health.
This university-wide effort bridges the gap from basic to applied life
sciences, including social, economic, political and ethical issues that
influence global health. Current boundaries between disciplines, sectors,
institutions and geographic locations must be crossed to enable a meaningful
response to these grand challenges. HIGH's 3 main areas of focus include:
-
Education - Training a new generation of leaders
is the heart of Harvard's mission. Acute global health challenges need
scores of Harvard' s brightest to choose global health careers in the
public, private and non-profit sectors.
-
Research - HIGH aims to seed research efforts in
the critical areas of inquiry necessary to address today's global health
challenges. These research priorities are identified by members of the faculty
steering committees of the initiative's programmatic priority areas.
- Engagement - Encouraging cross-fertilization of ideas and activities amongst the many actors and institutions that must come to bear on complex global health challenges is a key strategy of the Initiative.
