MGH-Institute for Technology Assessment
The mission of the Institute for Technology Assessment, led by Scott Gazelle, MD, MPH, PhD, is to develop and use state-of-the-art methodologies for technology assessment and health outcomes research to guide the development, evaluation and utilization of medical technologies that can improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of medical care. Methods include the use of decision analysis to determine optimal strategies for the utilization of specific technologies; conducting cost-effectiveness analyses to justify and prioritize resource allocation; evaluation of economically based programs to guide decision making regarding the development, expansion or reduction of specific programs; and conducting outcomes research to rapidly and accurately assess treatment efficacy and patient outcomes.
