MGH-Institute for Technology Assessment
The mission of the Institute for Technology
Assessment, led by Scott Gazelle, MD, MPH, PhD, is to develop and use
state-of-the-art methodologies for technology assessment and health outcomes
research to guide the development, evaluation and utilization of medical
technologies that can improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of medical
care. Methods include the use of decision analysis
to determine optimal strategies for the utilization of specific technologies; conducting
cost-effectiveness analyses to justify and
prioritize resource allocation; evaluation of economically based programs to
guide decision making regarding the development, expansion or reduction of
specific programs; and conducting outcomes
research to rapidly and accurately assess treatment efficacy and patient
outcomes. For more information and to visit the website for the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute for Technology Assessment, click here.
